A little detail about North Borneo Design Week – aims to position Kota Kinabalu as a strategic creative hub to connect countries in The East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) through the showcase of Malaysia’s creative industry. This design week will also be an eye-opener for local creative practitioners as professionals from all over the world are invited to share about their respective fields, vice versa from our local creative industry to the public.

Seats.my don’t just love to eat, we enjoy ART! Firstly, introducing Jesselton Artisan Market! It is founded on 1st of April 2017 and by now, every SABAHAN should have known already. 

The Jesselton Artisan Market is a curated showcase of Borneo’s skilled artisans and their creations. It is borne from Salt x Paper‘s owner, Aaron Lam & Chrystin Choo. With their goals in, “We want to bring our Malaysian designs to an international market” has now been closer!

This weekend from 27th October 2018 to 2nd November 2018, they are collaborating with North Borneo Design Week (NBDW)! It is the first time ever, Kota Kinabalu’s week-long festival to celebrate creativity in visual communication.

Let talk about North Borneo Design Week

The aim of North Borneo Design Week is to to bring together designers, architects, artists, craftsmen and makers from all around the region. The event is set to include talks, demonstrations and exhibitions.

The event will be hosted in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of North Borneo. The event is scheduled to start on the 14th of April with a welcome dinner. The event will continue the next day with a conference. The conference will Fabrizio Rossi, a internationally acclaimed designer, who will talk about design around the world. There will also be a presentation about the architecture of Sabah.

After this, there will be a chance to look at some of the designers and concept artists who will be showing off their work. There will also be a seminar focusing on interior design.

During the weekdays, there will be a day of workshops. Some of the workshops include beading, embroidery and batik. The workshops will be run by local experts in their field. There will also be a demonstration on how to do calligraphy.

There will be a chance to look at some different collections. There will also be a demonstration on making wall paintings.
